There are two stories in Oliver Cotton’s drama: one is about the Holocaust; the other is about lost love. It would have been better if he had cut the inappropriate comic dialogue. And stuck solely with the debate on what you do with Nazi war criminals 40 years after the event. John Bowe carries off a very long confession with aplomb and is amazed when his family (Maureen Lipman and Harry Shearer) do not applaud his actions.
