THE TRIALS OF OSCAR WILDE Trafalgar Studios 2

If Oscar Wilde had not been so foolish as to bring an action of criminal libel against the Marquess of Queensberry he would not have been sentenced to two years hard labour and died at 46. The highly dramatic script by Wilde’s grandson, Merlin Holland, and John O’Connor, is based on the transcripts of the three trials. John Gorick is very convincing as Wilde. Rupert Mason and William Kempsell play all the other roles and their versatility provides some welcome humour. I can see Peter Craze’s production being very successful in a series of one-night stands on the international university circuit.
