SWAN LAKE London Coliseum

If you were to see only one classical ballet in a lifetime it would have to be SWAN LAKE if only for Tchaikovsky’s unforgettable music, the sheer beauty of the corps of white swans and the amazing synchronisation of a quarter of cygnets. Derek Deane’s enjoyable touring production for English National Ballet, concentrating on the exquisite technique of Alina Cojocaru and the virtuosity of Ivan Vasiliev, rather than characterisation, is not particularly moving or dramatic; at least not until the final confrontation between Siegfried and Von Rothbart (a striking James Streeter).
