BY JEEVES Landor Theatre

The Alan Ayckbourn/Andrew Lloyd Webber musical had a disastrous first night back in 1975 and barely ran five weeks. Now considerably revised, and wisely reduced in scale to fit into a tiny fringe theatre, it relies entirely on the silliness of Nick Bagnall’s production. It wouldn’t work at all in larger and plusher surroundings; but here, on its own makeshift terms, the silliness is rather appealing. It doesn’t feel like P G Wodehouse, however, and Jeeves is miscast. Kevin Trainor is a likable Bertie Wooster, the cast is lively and there are at least two good songs.
