No’s Knife is an adaptation of Samuel Beckett’s Texts for Nothing, which are prose works and not intended for the stage. Irish actress Lisa Dwan and her co-director Joe Murphy have done everything they can to make her solo performance a theatrical experience.
Beckett explores human identity and life after death and asks: “Where would I go, if I could go? What would I be, if I could be? What could I say if I had a voice?” The poetry is challenging, raw, visceral and not instantly accessible. Dwan, one of the great Beckett interpreters; has the rigour and the discipline it needs. Vocally, her performance is a tour de force. No’s Knife, hard work for actress and audience alike, is strictly for Beckett aficionados.
