Dr ANGELUS Finborough Theatre

James Bridie’s Dr Angelus is based on the 60-year-old murderer Dr Edward Pritchard, the last man to be publically hanged in Scotland. He had poisoned his mother-in-law and wife within a month of each other. Bridie updates the action to 1920 and converts a macabre Victorian melodrama into a modern psychological thriller. Jenny Ogilvie’s revival is the first production in England since its premiere in 1947 and deserves a transfer to a larger theatre.
