SHREK THE MUSICAL Drury Lane Theatre

Can the musical repeat the success of the film, a witty spoof of practically every fairy tale you have ever heard, and do better business than it did in New York? Perhaps; it’s a show for family audiences. Nigel Lindsay’s ogre is simpatico. Nigel Harman, down on his knees and sporting two tiny fake legs, is hilarious as Lord Farquaad, a dwarfish Richard III lookalike. The enormous puppet dragon is fantastic. The major weakness is there are no memorable songs. The Donkey will also be a big disappointment for anybody who has seen Eddie Murphy’s Donkey.
