GOING DARK Young Vic/Clare Theatre

The innovative Sound&Fury Company is developing the physical and sonic elements of theatre by heightening the aural senses. The theatre is so dark ushers with torches have to guide each member of the audience to a seat. The tiny Clare has been transformed into a claustrophobic mini-planetarium. There is so little room the audience is asked to take off their overcoats before they enter to listen to a lecture on the stars and universe by an astronomer, He is a single father with a precocious six-year-old child and he is going blind. The script is by Hattie Naylor in collaboration with Sound&Fury and the actor is John Mackay. How far can you see? To see properly light and sight are not enough. You need to imagine the universe in order to question it. Going Dark is a journey into blindness. The universe itself is going blind.
