REUNION Jermyn Street Theatre

A middle-aged atheist, who is rotting away in a wheelchair, terminally ill, wants to die and he puts pressure on his wife to assist him in his suicide. He knows it’s a crime; he’s a lawyer. Will she do it? She knows it’s a mortal sin; she’s a Catholic. The acting by Peter Guinness and Roberta Taylor, who are husband and wife in real life, is sincere, but the play is oddly unmoving and the couple’s back story is banal. There have been so many films, TV dramas and documentaries about euthanasia; and, since John Caine has nothing new to say, I cannot imagine who will want to see it.
