MEDEA Almeida Theatre

Rule Number One is you don’t mess around with Medea, especially if you are her ex. She’s liable to kill your new wife and murder your children. I am not sure why Euripides’s name is billed first . Sure, he wrote a play called Medea. But then so did Seneca, Ovid, Corneille and Anouilh. The present new and updated version by feminist writer Rachel Cusk, author of A Life’s Work: On Becoming A Mother, is far removed from Euripides. The high spots are the huge marital rows Susan Fleetwood and Justin Salinger share when they are screaming at each other, talking over each other, and ignoring what the other is saying.
